Magnesia Carbon Brick Composition
The main raw materials of magnesia carbon brick are magnesia, graphite, binders and additives. The quality of these raw materials directly affects the performance and use of magnesia carbon bricks.
Magnesite is the main raw material of magnesia carbon brick. Magnesite quality has a very vital influence on the magnesia carbon brick. How to reasonably choose magnesia is the key to the production of magnesium carbon brick. Magnesite has two types, one is fused magnesite and the other is sintered magnesite, and they have different characteristics. Compared with sintered magnesite, fused magnesite has good performance in bulky periclase crystals, and high bulk density of the particles. What’s more, the purity of magnesia has a major influence on the slag resistance of magnesia-carbon bricks. The higher the MgO content, the less the impurities, and the higher the slag resistance of magnesia carbon bricks.
The carbon material of magnesia carbon bricks is mainly flake graphite. Flake graphite has good high temperature resistance, electrical conductivity, thermal conductivity, lubrication, plastic and acid and alkali resistant properties.
In the production of magnesia carbon bricks, the binder acts to bond the matrix and the particles.

Magnesia Carbon Brick Manufacturing Process
According to the different binders used, there are two kinds of production process of MgO-C bricks.
Firstly, When phenolic resin is used as a binder, the production process of magnesia carbon bricks is shown in the figure below:
Features: Mixing at room temperature, molding, process is simple.
Secondly, When asphalt is used as a binder, the production process of magnesia carbon bricks is shown in the figure below:
Features: In the balching, mixing and forming process, the mixture needs to be heated and the process is a little complicated. However, when bitumen is broken into fine powder and a certain amount of eucalyptus oil or washing oil is added as a cosolvent, a cold forming process can also be used to produce bitumen-bound magnesia carbon bricks.
